Six nodes, none of them ours
Every relay node runs on hardware or capacity donated by a partner. We do not own racks and we do not rent them. That keeps the project alive on a budget of roughly nothing, and it means node lifetimes are tied to the goodwill of whoever is hosting them.

A station is assigned to one primary node and one fallback. The fallback is always in a different country and, where possible, on a different upstream provider, so a single transit incident does not take a station off air entirely.
How traffic is shaped
Listener sessions are long. A radio stream is not a web page: a listener who tunes in at breakfast may hold the same connection for two hours. That gives the network an unusual profile — very few requests per second, very many concurrently open connections, and an almost flat bandwidth curve during daytime hours.
Nodes are sized by concurrent connections rather than by throughput. At 128 kbit/s per listener, a gigabit uplink saturates at roughly seven thousand listeners, but the connection table becomes the practical limit long before the bandwidth does.

Peering
We are present at two internet exchanges through our host partners and do not maintain our own ASN. Networks wishing to receive our traffic locally rather than over transit are welcome to arrange this with the relevant host; we are happy to make the introduction.
We do not offer transit, do not carry third-party traffic, and do not resell capacity. If you have reached this page looking for a CDN, we are not one.
Adding a node
The bar is low and deliberately so. A node needs a stable public address, a symmetric uplink of at least 500 Mbit/s, and someone willing to leave it alone for a couple of years. We handle configuration and monitoring. Universities and municipal networks have been the most durable hosts; commercial offers of free capacity tend to expire quietly after the first invoice cycle.
